Someone has written a book about J.D. Tippit, the Dallas police officer purportedly shot and killed by Lee Harvey Oswald the day of the JFK assassination. (Alert reader Jason brought this to my attention.) The only book I've read about the Kennedy assassination was Gerald Posner's "Case Closed" which argued persuasively that Oswald was the lone gunman. Posner systematically pulls apart the most popular conspiracy theories, but he's no apologist for the Warren Commission, which he takes to task for ignoring evidence that would have bolstered its findings. He also disputes some of the commission's conclusions, such as its timeline and sequence of shots from Oswald.

I should probably confess that I was predisposed in favor of the lone gunman theory, simply because when it comes to conspiracy theories, I tend to rely on Occam's razor--the simplest explanation is probably the best.

Comments:
If you want to see the most recent mother of all conspiracy theories check out the Loose Change video on line that poses all sorts of questions that lead to the the assumption that the 9-11 attacks were staged with help from the american government...and that the four commercial airliners really weren't involved (even if 300 passengers or so disappeared from the planet).

Too bad no one ever made a movie from Tippett's point of view. Tommy Lee Jones would have been a natural for the part. Take a look at the eyes on that Tippett page.

For real sick fun, read "Case Closed" at the same as the Warren Commission report, which I have done, possibly because I'm a very sad, lonely person.

Also, most of the JFK conspiracy experts wind up citing much of the same evidence as the Warren Commission, just coming to different conclusions.

A man sees what he wants to see, and disregards the rest ....

Incidentally --- Posner's book on the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is also very engrossing.

There is an account of JD Tippit's murder in Deadly Delusion, a recently published book about the JFK assassination, told fictionally in the voice of Lee Oswald. The book is exciting and suspensful. Excerpts are available daily at suppose.wordpress.com. The book is available at Amazon.com.
